HOMECOMING WEEK TO INCLUDE VISIT BY VIETNAM MOVING WALL
The Moving Wall, a half-size replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., will be on display near the Western Carolina University campus during the week of Homecoming 2009. Visitors will be able to view the wall at Monteith Park in Dillsboro beginning at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, through noon Monday, Oct. 19. A memorial service is set for noon Saturday, Oct. 17. The event is sponsored by the Jackson County Chamber of Commerce.
“The Vietnam Moving Wall is a significant part of history, and we feel blessed and privileged to be able to offer this experience in Jackson County,” said Julie Spiro ’98, executive director of the chamber. “We expect as many as 40,000 people to visit during the four-day period, and we encourage all WCU alumni and fans who plan to attend Homecoming to take advantage of this opportunity.”
For information on the wall, call the chamber at (800) 962-1911.
